July 1 (SeeNews) - Romanian electricity producer and supplier Electricom plans to invest over 28.4 million lei ($6.1 million/5.7 million euro) in the construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) in the southeastern commune of Casimcea, Tulcea county, local media reported.

The project, which was approved by Electricom shareholders on May 20, includes the development of a BESS proper and the development of access roads and site fencing as well as connecting the system to the national grid, local news outlet Economica.net reported last week.

Electricom submitted a request for state aid, aiming to access financing of 6.9 million lei for the project under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The company is also planning to develop a 4.55 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Casimcea, which will require an investment of around 14 million lei.

A SeeNews email to Electricom seeking further details of the planned investments went unanswered by the time this article was published.

Electricom is controlled by local businessman Sorin Bonciu. In 2023, the company booked a profit of 8.2 million lei on a net turnover of 51.6 million lei, according to finance ministry data.
