April 9 (SeeNews) - Romanian car maker Automobile Dacia, a unit of France's Renault, is ready to resume production at its plant in Mioveni, Groupe Renault Romania said on Thursday.

"In agreement with the social partners and out of deference for the protection and safety of the employees, all the protection measures in force in Romania has been implemented to progressively resume the manufacturing activity carried out on Dacia industrial platform at Mioveni," Groupe Renault Romania said in a press release.

Starting April 21, the Mechanical and Chassis plant is ready to restart operations in a reduced team, on a voluntary basis, while the Assembly Plant will resume production in the Stamping shop, in two shifts, also on a voluntary basis. Starting May 4, all activities in both plants will be restarted.

"Throughout the period when the production activity was interrupted, measures were defined and applied to protect the employees in view of their return to work. These hygiene and safety measures will be rigorously applied. Employees will be informed about the need to comply with the measures taken to protect their health and their colleagues," Groupe Renault Romania added.

Dacia announced on March 18 that it is suspending production at Mioveni between March 19 and April 5. Earlier this month, it decided not to reopen its Mioveni plant on April 5 as planned.

Dacia employs 14,000 at the plant in Mioveni, data posted on its website showed.

Renault bought Automobile Dacia, an ailing state-owned Romanian company at the time, in 1999.

Dacia has topped the SeeNews ranking of the 100 biggest companies by total revenue in Southeast Europe in the last five years.
