July 25 (SeeNews) - Rockwool Group said on Wednesday that it has launched the construction of a basalt mineral wool factoty in Romania, a project worth an estimated 50 million euro ($58.4 million).
The construction of the factory will be carried out by Romanian company CON-A, Rockwool said in a press release.
The factory will be located on a 30-hectare plot of land in Ploiesti West Park, southern Romania, and will create around 150 direct jobs, while additional 300 jobs will be created indirectly in services and logistics.
Rockwool announced in November last year its intention to build the new factory.
"We are glad that we can start the works on this factory, we know how much our customers expect it. This production unit is first and foremost a commitment to them, and will help us get closer to their projects in Romania and deliver them faster the products they need," Rockwool Balkans Business Unit Director Florin Popescu said. "The start of construction comes in a good context. We see a growing demand for our products that help buildings save energy, be safe against fire, and provide increased comfort."
Production of basalt mineral wool at the new factory is expected to start in 2019.
The new production plant will contribute to the growth of the local economy, given that most of the raw materials and logistics services will come from Romania, and most of the workforce directly employed by Rockwool or the subcontractors will be local, the company said.
Rockwool Group is a multinational manufacturer of mineral wool products headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark.
