April 26 (SeeNews) - French nuclear energy company Framatome said it launched a wholly-owned subsidiary in Bulgaria to support a recently-agreed three-year services and maintenance contract for the VVER-1000 Units of Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy.
The move is strengthening the 20-year cooperation between the parties and is part of Framatome's goal to broaden its footprint in Central Europe, the French company said in a statement last week.
Framatome Bulgaria was launched in support of a 43.1 million levs ($23.6 million/22 million euro) contract for systems and equipment technical maintenance services, which the Framatome's German arm and Kozloduy NPP signed in December 2021.
The contract covers ageing management, planned and unplanned maintenance work on some electrical and instrumentation and control (I&C) systems as well as the supply of spare parts and five modernisation packages for I&C and electrical engineering areas.
"Framatome will continue to develop local support services to ensure the reliable long-term operations of Kozloduy NPP is available around-the-clock for the production of safe, low carbon energy," Catherine Cornand, senior executive vice president of Framatome’s Installed Base business unit, said.
On Sunday, Kozloduy NPP shut down Unit 5, one of its two 1,000-MW operating nuclear reactors, for planned annual maintenance through May.
