December 8 (SeeNews) - U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian opened a research and development (R&D) centre in Belgrade, the Serbian president's office said on Thursday.
"We must continue to work on increasing our capacity, and see how we can expand the capacity of the faculty of technical sciences in Novi Sad, as well as all the other faculties within the Belgrade University," Serbia's president Aleksandar Vucic said at the opening ceremony, as quoted by his office in a statement.
The company plans to open 200 positions for engineers before the end of the year, and an additional 1,000 jobs next year, public broadcaster RTS reported.
Rivian has fourteen employees in Serbia and plans to raise th number to 25 by the end of the year, said company vice president for talent acquisition, Cindy Nicola, said, as seen in a video by RTS.
Rivian was founded in 2009 and specialises in the design and manufacturing of electric-powered pickup trucks and high-ground vehicles.
