March 24 (SeeNews) - Romanian car maker Automobile Dacia, a member of France’s Renault Group, said its net profit rose 5.8% year-on-year to 527 million lei ($114.8 million/107 million euro) in 2022, while its turnover increased by an annual 19.9% to 25.7 billion lei.

Dacia produced 314,228 vehicles in 2022, up by 22% compared to the previous year, a management report published on the company's website showed.

The growth in production was driven by “the decrease in the effects of the sanitary crisis (COVID-19), but also of the crisis in the supply of electronic components, against the backdrop of a growing vehicle market,” the company said in the report.

Sales of vehicle and car components accounted for 90% of the company’s turnover in 2022, up by an annual 19.3%, due to an increase in exports. Exports jumped by 22.5% on the year, constituting 82.4% of Dacia’s total sales.

Sales closely tracked Dacia’s uptick in production, as the company sold 314,150 units in 2022, up by an annual 22%. The best-selling model was the Dacia Duster, accounting for 68% of total unit sales, followed by the Jogger, Logan and Sandero models.

Both operating revenues and expenses grew by 20% on the year in 2022, reaching 25.9 billion lei and 25.3 billion lei, respectively. Research and development (R&D) expenses amounted to 154.8 million lei, down by an annual 9%.

In 2022, the company tallied 12,209 staff, down 562 compared to 2021.

The company estimates that its operations will not be significantly affected by the war in Ukraine and will continue to implement future products, while preparing its current products for new European regulations regarding vehicle emission and general safety standards.

Renault acquired Romania’s Automobile Dacia, an ailing state company at the time, in 1999. At the end of 2022, the French parent owned a 99.426% stake in Dacia.
