January 23 (SeeNews) - Croatian state-owned shipping company Jadrolinija said on Monday it has initiated a public procurement procedure for the construction of three electricity-driven passenger ships, with an estimated total value of 45 million euro ($49 million), it said in a notice.
The company is inviting potential candidates to submit an application for participation in the procedure by February 22, according to a notice published on the website of state gazette Narodne Novine. The delivery of the ships will be co-financed from European Union funds.
Each of the ships will have a capacity to carry 389 passengers. The autonomy of the vessels should be at least 40 nautical miles at a speed of 12 knots.
Jadrolinija's fleet consists of 54 vessels, including 40 ro-ro ships, with none of them electric.
