June 2 (SeeNews) - A tender for awarding permits for exploration of geothermal waters at six areas in Croatia attracted “great interest” that exceeded all expectations, the country's hydrocarbon agency said.
“The tender commission determined that for five of the six exploration blocs offered, a total of 16 bids were received from 11 candidates. These are reputable domestic companies looking to diversify their portfolios with new, safe and strong energy projects,” the hydrocarbon agency said in a press release on Thursday.

The bidders also include many foreign companies with rich experience in developing geothermal energy projects, the agency added without mentioning any names.
The tender that closed earlier this week concerns an area of over 200 square kilometres with a proven significant geothermal potential in the Drava river basin in four counties in Coatia's northeast and east - Medjimurje, Koprivnica-Krizevci, Podravina, and Osijek-Baranja.
The expected value of the investment is over 400 million euro ($430 million), and the potential total energy output of the sites is estimated at over 600,000 MWh, the agency added.
