October 6 (SeeNews) - Donalam, the Romanian subsidiary of Italian steel bars and special steels manufacturer AFV Beltrame Group, said on Thursday that it plans to hire 250 at the Targoviste special steel plant in Romania.
Since the acquisition of the COS Targoviste plant by Beltrame at the beginning of 2022, the number of employees has increased significantly, and the company aims to reach 730 staff by the end of the year, Donalam said in a press release.
The Targoviste plant resumed operations in June, putting Romania back on the map of rebar steel producers, and in order to cover production needs and to work at normal flow, a significant increase in the team is needed, the company explained.
"The problem of staff shortages has not bypassed our sector. It is very difficult to find specialists in the field, in the absence of an educational system that prepares young people for these specific professions," Donalam HR manager Liliana Bica said.
Founded in 1896, AFV Beltrame Group has seven plants in Italy, France, Switzerland and Romania, with a total of over 2,500 employees, over 2 million tons of steel sold annually and commercial activities in over 40 countries.
Donalam has two production facilities: one in Calarasi, with over 15 years of activity in the production of hot rolled steel bars, and the plant in Targoviste, where the production of concrete steel was restarted this summer.
In June, Beltrame said it plans to invest 200 million euro ($197.8 million) to upgrade the Targoviste special steel plant and to build a photovoltaic park with an installed capacity of 100-120 MW.
Over the next five years, around 100 million euro will be invested in modernising the machinery and 80% of the budget will be allocated to the purchase of technologies to reduce carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency and move towards a circular economy by reusing resources and minimising waste, the company said at the time.
