May 18 (SeeNews) - The Albanian parliament unanimously approved an agreement for a cross-border bridge to Montenegro across the Buna river, envisaging that the 20-million euro ($21.6 million) cost is evenly split between the two countries, the parliament said on Thursday.
The 300-metre two-lanes bridge will reduce the road connection between Albania’s Shkodra and Montenegro’s Ulcinj to 1 km from 73 km currently, the two governments have said.
The two countries have also agreed to open a border checkpoint, Sveti Nikola-Pulaj, near the bridge on the territory of Albania to facilitate cross-border traffic and boost tourism. Albania will finance the construction of the border checkpoint, while Montenegro will cover the costs for IT integration of its border services at the checkpoint, the governments said earlier.
