March 26 (SeeNews) - Serbia will put into trial mode the desulphurisation units of Nikola Tesla A thermal power plant (TPP) by the end of March, upon completing a project costing almost 215 million euro ($233.1 million), the government said.
The project has been carried out by Japan's Mitsubishi Power, with the financial support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is interested in participating in other projects in Serbia's energy sector, energy minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said in a press release on Monday.
She said the construction of the desulphurisation plant at the Nikola Tesla B TPP will be completed next year, which will enable the reduction of sulphur dioxide emissions to one-twentieth of their current levels.
In January, Serbia’s government said it would trial the desulphurisation facilities at units A3 to A6 of Nikola Tesla A TPP by April. The project wasa launched in December 2020.
Nikola Tesla A and Nikola Tesla B are part of Termoelektrane Nikola Tesla (TENT) power generation complex, which also includes the TPP Morava and TPP Kolubara power plants.
