April 24 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to complete the construction of a 22-kolometre bypass road in the southern city of Kragujevac by the end of 2027, the local government said.
The first two kilometres of asphalt are expected to be laid in August, Kragujevac mayor Nikola Dasic said, as quoted in a press release on Monday.
Work is underway on the construction of the first section of the bypass, with a length of five kilometres, from the Kragujevac - Batocina motorway to a planned interchange at the Cvetojevac industrial zone.
In December, Serbia broke ground for the bypass which, once completed will be connected to European transport Corridor XI via the Cacak-Kraljevo section of the Morava Corridor.
In July, Serbia signed a contract worth 265 million euro ($283.2 million) with state-run road operator Putevi Srbije and Srbija Autoput for the design and construction of the bypass.
