April 29 (SeeNews) - Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will reopen its main runway in the coming weeks following reconstruction, regional media reported on Monday.
“The deep and full reconstruction of the existing runway is almost complete, and we will reopen it in the coming weeks. Belgrade Airport will enjoy having two fully operational runways,” news portal EX-YU Aviation quoted Belgrade Airport CEO, Francois Berisot, as saying.
The runway has been reconstructed with high-resistance concrete to improve its weight-bearing capacity. It will also have a new drainage and LED lighting systems, a new system of taxiways, including four rapid exit taxiways enabling aircraft to turn off at higher speeds than regular exit taxiways, thereby minimising runway occupancy times.
The inserted runway, launched in June last year, will serve as a parallel taxiway to the runway.
