"We believe that the future lies in renewable energy and we are interested in bringing our expertise to Serbia," the government quoted the marketing and business development manager for Europe, Africa and Middle East at Bechtel Infrastructure, Chris Jennions, as saying in a press release on Thursday.

Bechtel is implementing large energy projects around the world, especially when it comes to hydro power, wind farms and solar energy, Jennions said during a meeting with Serbian energy minister Zorana Mihajlovic in Belgrade.

"I believe that we can transfer the excellent cooperation to the energy sector, given the vast experience that Bechtel has in this area. For us, green energy, as the basis for the development of the green economy, and renewable energy sources, are extremely important," Mihajlovic said.

In October 2019, the Serbian government signed an 800 million euro ($945 million) memorandum of understanding with Bechtel for the construction of the Morava Corridor, a 110 km motorway linking Preljina to Pojate in the central part of the country.
