The new solar plant is part of Yildirim’s plan to increase use of green energy supply in its business, the company said in a social media post last week.

Sergiy Maslichenko, head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Kosovo, said in a social media post last week that the solar plant will meet the energy demands of the ferronickel plant.

Yildirim acquired the plant, called NewCo Ferronikeli, from Albanian conglomerate Balfin in September 2022. At the time, the plant was closed due to a surge in energy costs.

Yildirim resumed production at the plant in June 2023, and said it was focusing on energy efficiency.
