March 10 (SeeNews) - German-based tourism group TUI is re-launching direct flights from several French airports to the Bulgarian coastal city of Burgas after a nine-year break, Bulgaria’s tourism ministry said on Friday.
The seaside resort of Sunny Beach, located near Burgas, will be the main Bulgarian destination for TUI during this summer season, Astrid Eilert, head of product medium haul at TUI France, said during a meeting with tourism minister Stela Baltova, according to a statement from the ministry.
In 2016, TUI sent more than 230,000 tourists to Bulgaria and announced it was stepping up its investments in Bulgaria to compensate for a slump in demand for travel to Turkey.
TUI Group’s portfolio includes 1,600 travel agencies and leading online portals, six tourist airlines with around 150 aircraft, 14 cruise liners and over 300 hotels with 214,000 beds.
