March 14 (SeeNews) - VIK, the water supply and sewerage company of Croatia’s city of Split, said it has selected a bid by Austrian construction company Strabag to build a central wastewater treatment plant in the village of Divulje.
The bid, worth 24.4 million euro ($26.7 million), was the only one submitted in a public tender for this project, VIK said in a press release on Wednesday.
The construction of the plant is part of a wider project worth 152.8 million euro aimed at improving the water and sewerage infrastructure of the towns of Kastela and Trogir near Split. The initiative was financed with 106.6 million euro from the European Union cohesion fund for the period 2014–2020.
Thanks to this project, the water supply network in Kastela, Trogir, and the island of Ciovo will be extended by 2,548 new connections, benefiting an additional 7,700 individuals and increasing the water connection rate to 99%. Additionally, 8,613 connections for 32,477 residents will be added to the sewerage system, raising the connection rate from the current 45% to 97%.
