The plant will have the capacity to produce 140 GWh of electricity annually and will cover up to half of the available surface of the lake, supplying power to about 35,000 households, HSE said in a statement on Monday.

"Taking into account the gradual abandonment of coal, the floating solar power plant is one of the important solutions for ensuring an acceptable price of thermal energy in the Salek Valley," HSE said.

The spatial planning project for the floating photovoltaic plant will be open for public consultation until June 29, the company noted.

Last year, the CEO of HSE, Tomaz Stokelj, said the company plans to invest 2 billion euro ($2.2 billion) to expand its renewable energy production capacity by 2033 and has examined about 50 possible locations for the construction of new photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 400 MWp, including additional capacity at the Prapretno solar power plant and near the Zlatolicje hydropower plant, as well as floating solar power plants in Sostanj lake.
