Skoda to suspend production at Kvasiny plant over Slovenia floods - report

"Skoda can confirm that the floods in Slovenia have affected a subcontractor that supplies components for internal combustion engines of Skoda models and other group brands. Efforts are being made to fully resume production at this plant. Currently, the subcontractor is only able to deliver to a limited extent," news agency CTK quoted on Thursday corporate communications spokesperson Ivana Povolna as saying.

At the moment, changes in production volumes cannot be ruled out also at Skoda's plant in Mlada Boleslav, where production is still ongoing without changes, Povolna said.

The situation is likely to improve in the week starting September 18, as Skoda is currently working with Chinese suppliers to replace the missing part, CTK quoted works council and union leader Jaroslav Povsik as saying.

Earlier this week, Volkswagen's purchasing director Dirk Grosse-Loheide said the car manufacturer Volkswagen plans to temporarily reduce production at its main plant in Wolfsburg from mid-September due to a disruption of car part deliveries caused by last month's severe floods in Slovenia.

Slovenian supplier KLS Ljubno, which delivers toothed rings for internal combustion engines, is unable to resume production following the floods, Grosse-Loheide said back then. Volkswagen has already reduced production at its plant in Hanover and will completely suspend the output at its Portuguese factory in Palmela starting September 11.
