February 10 (SeeNews) - Serbian oil and gas company NIS [BEL:NIIS] said on Friday it started the operation of a 2.41 MW co-generation plant near Novi Knezevac, in northern Serbia.
NIS has invested a total of 2.6 million euro ($2.76 million) in the construction of the power plant, located in the Majdan oil and gas field, the company said in a statement.
The total capacity of the co-generation plants operated by NIS now amounts to 14.5 MW, enough to satisfy the electricity needs of 20,000 households, the Serbian oil and gas firm added.
NIS has so far invested 15 million euro in the construction of co-generation plants across Serbia, which have a combined steam production capacity of 4 MW.
In 2016, NIS started exporting the electricity produced at the cogeneration plants to Romania, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Montenegro. The company said it aims to start exporting electricity to all EU member countries in the region.
