"This decision was made in order to ensure a stable supply to the fuel market, preserve the citizens' standards of living and boost economic stability," the government said in a statement on Thursday.

When deciding on the extension, the cabinet kept in mind the current situation on the global markets and the upward trend in the oil price, it said, adding that price hikes will "negatively affect the macroeconomic stability in the country" if left unchecked.

The maximum retail prices of motor fuel in Serbia are now formed by adding seven dinars ($0.063/0.059 euro) to the average wholesale price determined on national level, the government previously explained. The new price is announced every Friday.
