BELGRADE (Serbia), May 22 (SeeNews) – Serbia plans to invest a total of 52 million euro ($56.8 million) in the expansion of the Danubian port of Bogojevo, the country's infrastructure ministry said.
About 35 million euro will be invested in the port infrastructure directly by the Serbian government, while the remainder will be invested by the future concessionaire of the harbour, the infrastructure ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The deadline for the completion of the technical documentation is June 2021, while the planned deadline for the start of construction works is the end of 2021, the ministry said in response to a question sent by daily Politika.
The project includes the construction of grain and oilseed silos, as well as additional storage for agricultural space, a smaller container terminal, as well as an oil terminal, the ministry said.
"The port should enable the provision of logistics services for companies operating in eastern Croatia, as an alternative to Osijek port, especially in periods when Drava river water levels are low," the minstry said.
In May 2019, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said that the government is investing 300 million euro in the development of the country's water transport, including the reconstruction of the ports in Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica and Bogojevo.
