March 9 (SeeNews) - Serbia will prohibit exports of vegetable oil, maize, wheat, and flour starting Thursday in a move to ensure stable prices for both the country and the region in case Russia halts exports of wheat and corn, president Aleksandar Vucic said.
"In the last couple of days, exports of vegetable oils jumped 109% compared to its average level, so we had to react," Vucic said in an interview with private broadcaster B92 on Tuesday.

In late January, the government extended by 90 days a price freeze on sugar, wheat flour types T-400 and T-500, sunflower oil, pork and milk with 2.8% fat content at their November 15 levels, in a bid to soften the impact of inflation on living standards.
According to estimates by Zita Srbije, the association of Serbian grain producers, in 2021 the country was expected to export 1.8 million tonnes of wheat and 1.6 million tonnes of maize.
According to statistical office data, Serbia harvested 3.54 million tonnes of wheat and 6.24 million tonnes of maize last year.
