December 11 (SeeNews) - The chief negotiators of Serbia and Kosovo on December 10 resumed talks on financial and property claims as part of the negotiations on the normalisation of relations, a senior EU official said.
"We continued our discussions on financial and property claims and will resume again in 2021," Miroslav Lajcak, the EU special representative for the dialogue for normalisation of Belgrade-Pristina relations, said in his Twitter profile on Thursday.
The Serbian delegation proposed the establishment of a system of principles to be followed in the talks, as the positions of Belgrade and Pristina in terms of property and financial claims are absolutely opposite, the chief negotiator for Serbia, Petar Petkovic, said on Thursday in a separate statement.
Belgrade insisted on the establishment of a Community of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo, Petkovic also said.
In September, Lajcak cancelled a meeting of negotiators from Serbia and Kosovo due to the coronavirus pandemic. The agenda of the meeting included discussions on arrangements for non-majority communities, including the establishment of a Community of Serb-majority municipalities.
A clause envisaging the integration of the Serb-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo into the Kosovo legal system is included in the Brussels Agreement on the normalisation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo signed in April 2013. The clause has not been fulfilled by the government in Pristina so far.
The aim of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, launched in 2010, is that the parties reach a comprehensive legally binding agreement solving all outstanding issues in order for Serbia and Kosovo to progress on their European integration path.
