March 16 (SeeNews) - Serbia expects to sign a long-term agreement for natural gas deliveries with Russia's Gazprom by May 15, the general manager of state-owned monopoly Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, said on Wednesday.
"We expect the first exchange of papers, which specifically means how they see the situation with the new long-term contract and how Srbijagas sees it, to take place these days," Bajatovic said in a video file posted on the website of Tanjug news agency.
In November, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said the country aims to sign a ten-year contract for the delivery of 3 billion cubic metres of Russian gas per year. The previous long-term natural gas delivery agreement of Serbia with Gazprom expired on December 31, 2021. In November, Gazprom agreed to continue selling Serbia gas at the price of $270 (245.6 euro) per 1,000 cubic metres until June 2022.
Last week, Vucic said Serbia would accept a price of $400 per 1,000 cubic metres under the new contract.
Gazprom's gas exports to Serbia in the first eleven months of 2021 were 57% higher than the quantity supplied in the entire 2020, the company said in December. The exports of Gazprom to Serbia totalled 1.346 billion cubic metres in 2020, down 37% year-on-year.
