February 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia cannot pay $2,000 (1,762 euro) per 1,000 cubic metres of natural gas from Russia, president Aleksandar Vucic said in response to a tweet by former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev.
On Tuesday, Medvedev said in a tweet, "German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has issued an order to halt the process of certifying the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Well. Welcome to the brave new world where Europeans are very soon going to pay 2,000 euro for 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas."
"I hope we will be able to find a more favourable agreement, because this would be unbearable," Vucic said, as seen in a video posted on his YouTube channel on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Serbian president's office from November 2021, the country is currently paying Russia $270 for 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas.
"We are a small country and cannot allow ourselves to break friendships. The destiny of Ukraine is not up to Serbia," Vucic said when asked to clarify Serbia's stance on the Ukraine crisis.
