The partnership involves a long-term off-take agreement that will see the partner finance, design, construct, and operate the plant, the oil and gas company said in a call for offers published on its website on Thursday.
The plant should produce at least 11,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The facility will require about 75 MW of renewable electrical power, which the partner must secure.
Rompetrol will supply treated and untreated water, offer land at the refinery, establish the long-term off-take agreement, and potentially develop a 40 MW solar park for partial renewable energy support.
The project is part of the Petromidia refinery’s green transition programme, which also involves shifting from traditional grey hydrogen to green hydrogen production. Last week, Rompetrol completed the turnaround of its Petromidia refinery.
The main shareholders of Rompetrol Rafinare are KMG International with a stake of 48.11% and the Romanian state with 44.69%.
Rompetrol's shares traded flat at 0.0775 lei ($0.0169/0.0156 euro) as at 1154 CET on Friday on the Bucharest bourse.
