May 31 (SeeNews) - Romania's TMK Hydroenergy Power has put into operation the first floating photovoltaic (PV) system in the country, with an installed capacity of 1 MW, in order to synergise hydro and solar power and increase the potential of green energy, it said.

The floating solar plant is located on a stilling basin adjacent to the company's Grebla hydropower plant, in the western county of Caras-Severin, and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 5,000 tonnes over a period of five years, TMK said in a press release earlier this week.

TMK developed the project together with Innovation Norway, a Norwegian government financial instrument. The value of the investment was not disclosed.

"The project fully supports our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, promotes the use of clean energy and strengthens efforts to prepare for the transition to green energy," said Liviu Gavrila, chief generation officer at Evryo.

In 2023, TMK Hydroenergy Power booked a net profit of 10.3 million lei ($2.2 million/2.1 million euro) on a net turnover of 46.8 million lei, according to data from the finance ministry.

TMK Hydroenergy Power is a subsidiary of Evryo Group, formerly CEZ Romania.
