August 4 (SeeNews) - Romanian project company RoPower Nuclear said on Friday that it has commissioned a solar photovoltaic (PV) park with a capacity of 80 MW in Doicesti, in the southern county of Dambovita.
The Doicesti-Sotanga solar park will provide the necessary power for all the equipment and machinery used in the execution of the future Doicesti small modular reactor (SMR) plant, RoPower Nuclear said in a press release.

The solar park spans an area of 115 hectares and comprises more than 123,000 individual solar panels. It is connected to the national energy grid through two transformer stations, in Sotanga and Doicesti.
"The Doicesti power complex is a sustainable solution that is already bringing back into use a large area of the ash deposits from the former Doicesti coal-fired power plant by using them for the photovoltaic park. In the future, the whole site will be reused for the operation of the small modular
reactor power plant," the project company said.
RoPower Nuclear is equally owned by Romania's nuclear power plant operator Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN] and partner Nova Power & Gas.
"Through access to a clean, safe, reliable, and efficient source of energy, a real industrial hub will be developed in the Doicesti area, with the potential to attract new investors to the area," said Cosmin Ghita, Nuclearelectrica CEO.
In January, RoPower signed a contract with U.S.-based nuclear power company NuScale, for the deployment of the first SMR power plant in Europe.
Blue-chip Nuclearelectrica's shares traded 0.90% higher at 44.95 lei ($9.98/9.07 euro) as at 1449 CET on Friday on the Bucharest bourse.
