August 6 (SeeNews) - Romania's Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN], the operator of the country's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, said on Thursday that it has re-synchronized one of the plant's two 700 MW units to the grid.
Nuclearelectrica re-synchronized Unit 1 after remediating the cause which led to its disconnection from the grid on Wednesday evening, the company said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB.
Unit 1 was disconnected from the national power system during the power increase stage of the reactor, following re-synchronization on Tuesday after the completion of the works related to a planned outage that started on June 20, Nuclearelectrica said in a separate statement on Wednesday, adding that the disconnection of Unit 1 from the grid as well as the remediation works do not have a negative impact on nuclear safety, the personnel, the population and the environment.
The decision to enter the planned outage of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 was delayed from the initial schedule, due to the international context generated by the Covid-19 pandemic combined with the measures provided in the personnel protection plan, similar to other nuclear power plants, for ensuring the continuity of production and operation, Nuclearelectrica noted.
The Cernavoda plant covers roughly a fifth of Romania's power needs.
Blue-chip Nuclearelectrica's shares traded 0.60% higher at 16.68 lei ($4.09/ 3.45 euro) as at 0942 CET on Thursday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
