October 11 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output fell by 0.4% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2018, the statistical office, INS, said on Thursday.
Romania's January-August energy production totalled 13.9 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Energy imports amounted to 8.95million TOE, up by 8.3% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 44.9 TWh in the first eight months of 2018, up by 0.2% on the year.
In January-August, thermal power plants generated some 16.9 TWh of electricity, down by 8.3% on the year, while the output of hydro power plants rose by 33.2% to 13.57 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell by 0.7% on the year to some 7.4 TWh in the review period.
Wind farms generated 4.18 TWh, down by 12%, and solar plants produced 1.23 TWh, 14% lower on the year, in the first eightmonths of 2018.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 2.1% to 37.1 TWh during the period under review.
Romania’s electricity exports fell by 13.1% year-on-year to 3.97 TWh through August.
The country produced 2.24 million TOE of crude oil, down 2.3% on the year, and 2.73 million TOE of coal, down by 11%, in the first eight months of 2018. Natural gas production rose 2.3% year-on-year, reaching 5.52 million TOE.
In 2017, Romania's energy production rose by 4% to 21.30 million TOE.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
