March 20 (SeeNews) - Romania's power distribution system operator (DSO) Retele Electrice Banat, owned by Greek utility Public Power Corp. (PPC), said it has invested 14 million lei ($3 million/2.8 million euro) in the modernisation of one of its primary substations in the western city of Timisoara.
The Venus substation now boasts a doubled installed power of 50 MVA, serving over 22,000 customers in Timisoara, the company said in a press release on Tuesday.
The project was funded from Retele Electrice Banat's internal resources.
The Venus primary substation, operational since 1992, was integrated into a remote-control system in 2006 as part of a network digitalisation strategy.
Retele Electrice Banat oversees 97 high-voltage to medium-voltage transformer stations, boasting a total capacity of 4,163 MVA in Timisoara and the surrounding areas.
Last year, PPC acquired Enel Romania, the former parent company of Retele Electrice Banat, for a total of 1.24 billion euro ($1.34 billion).
