The warehouse, spanning 32,500 sq m, has a total capacity of 23,500 pallets and can process up to 320 pallets per hour, PepsiCo said in a press release on Wednesday. It is also designed to be energy autonomous, powered by a photovoltaic panel system with an installed capacity of 700 kWp.

“The completion of this investment marks an important step in centralizing all our operations in one location, transforming our factory into a strategic regional hub for Central and Southeastern Europe. With its impressive production and storage capacity, this facility will ensure efficient inventory control while reducing carbon emissions and operational costs,” Radu Berevoescu, general manager and senior commercial director for the East Balkans at PepsiCo Romania, said.

Over the course of a year, the automated warehouse will help eliminate more than 9,000 transfer trucks, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by almost 500 tonnes and lowering the carbon footprint of a stored pallet by five times, as per the statement.

The completion of this warehouse also marked the conclusion of a broader strategic investment project valued at over $100 million, PepsiCo said. As part of this investment project, which was announced in 2022, the company also added three new production lines to its snacks factory, increasing its annual production capacity to 39,000 tonnes. The Popesti-Leordeni factory supplies products to 17 European countries.

PepsiCo has invested $320 million directly in Romania over the past decade.
