September 15 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourists who visited Kosovo in the second quarter totalled 21,280, down 4.3% year-on-year, the country's statistics office has said.
The number of nights spent by foreign tourists in Kosovo's hotels increased to 33,119 in the second quarter, from 32,926 a year ago, the statistics office said on Wednesday.
Most of the foreign visitors to Kosovo came from Albania, Turkey, the USA, Germany, and Switzerland. The capital Pristina and the city of Peje were the most preferred destinations.
In 2015, the number of foreign tourists to Kosovo rose 29.2% to 79,238, whereas foreign tourist overnights increased by 18.2% to 120,669.

Kosovo statistics office also reported that 109 hotels with a total of 2,503 rooms operated in the country in the second quarter of 2016. Occupancy rate was 14.18%.
According to Kosovo's statistical methods, tourists are considered those persons who stay at least one night in a hotel in the country, whereas most other statistical agencies in Southeast Europe count the number of of all people crossing the borders.
