August 21 (SeeNews) - A meeting of Serbia and Kosovo leaders for talks on the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, expected to take place at the White House on September 2, may be postponed, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday.
"Nothing has been agreed yet, but I see that there are certain initiatives for a short postponement of the date of the meeting, by two days or something like that," Vucic said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian public broadcaster RTS.
He did not elaborate.
Earlier on Friday, Kosovo-based news portal Telegrafi.com quoted an unnamed source as saying that the meeting will be postponed to a later date, without revealing the reason for the delay.
The U.S. special envoy for the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, Richard Grenell, said earlier this month that Serbia and Kosovo leaders will meet for talks on the normalisation of relations at the White House on September 2.
A bilateral meeting of Serbia and Kosovo leaders at the White House was announced for June, after Kosovo’s prime minister Avdullah Hoti said his government would not attend the U.S.-mediated talks as Kosovo president Hashim Thaci was indicted for alleged war crimes.
The U.S. and the European Union have divided tasks regarding the continuation of the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue, Grenell said in June. According to Grenell, the U.S. government will facilitate the economic matters of the dialogue, whereas the EU will focus on its political aspects.
On September 7, Belgrade and Pristina will hold the next high-level meeting in Brussels within the dialogue for normalisation of their relations, facilitated by the EU.
