The investment is expected to increase the plant's output by 25% this year, meeting growing consumer demand through efficiency, sustainability and innovation, JDE Peet's said in a press release on Tuesday.

The Kostinbrod plant, which serves 18 markets, including Bulgaria, Romania and Greece, makes 85 end products from 20 coffee varieties. It has a team of nearly 100 people, with ten new jobs created following the expansion.

As part of its sustainability efforts, JDE Peet's has installed 820 rooftop solar panels at the Kostinbrod plant, which cover 12% of its energy needs, it said. Additionally, the factory only uses electricity from renewable sources and has reduced its carbon emissions by between 350 and 430 tonnes annually.

JDE Peet's serves over 100 markets with a portfolio of more than 50 brands. In 2023, the company generated sales of 8.2 billion euro and employed over 21,000 staff globally.
