March 3 (SeeNews) - A consortium comprising Turkish construction firm Gulermak, French rolling stock manufacturer Alstom and Romanian construction company Arcada has won a 9 billion lei ($1.94 billion/1.82 billion euro) contract to design and build a metro line in Romania's Cluj-Napoca, the city mayor said.
The duration of the contract is eight years, Cluj-Napoca mayor Emil Boc announced on social media earlier this week.
Some 8.66 billion lei of the total sum will be allocated for the construction of the metro line while the remainder will be used to finance design works and technical assistance services.
Cluj-Napoca's municipal government relaunched the tender for the design and construction of the city’s first metro line after increasing the estimated value of the contract by 36% to 9.06 billion lei.
The Cluj-Napoca metro line will span over 21 km, with 19 underground stations and an above-ground depot.
