April 19 (SeeNews) - Spain's Glovo, part of German online takeaway food company Delivery Hero, said it has decided to suspend its expansion to the Albanian market for the time being, following a review of its investment plans.
“After a reassessment of the company's investment priorities, Glovo has decided not to enter the Albanian market at this time. Southeastern Europe remains one of the key regions for Glovo,” Glovo told SeeNews in a statement on LinkedIn on Thursday.
Glovo began hiring for Albanian operations back in February. In March its competitor, Finnish startup Wolt, acquired by US-based foot tech company DoorDash in 2022, launched in Albania's capital Tirana with plans to expand across the country.
Other local food deliverers, such as Baboon and Foodini, operate in Albania’s major cities.
Delivery Hero secured majority control of Glovo in December 2021. Glovo operates in more than 1500 cities across 25 countries.
