Croatia's wheat sowing area down 17.5% in 2024

June 28 (SeeNews) - The area sown with soft wheat (winter, spring seed and durum) in Croatia this year fell by 17.5% to compared to 2023, to 141,000 hectares, the statistical office said on Friday.

The area put to maize (mercantile and seed) increased by 2.2% year-on-year to 275,000 hectares in 2024, the statistical office said in a report, quoting first estimates of areas sown with cereals and oilseeds by June 1.

Croatia has dedicated 62,000 hectares to sunflower seed in 2024, up 3.3% year-on-year, while the area sown with sugar beet increased by 37.5% to 11,000 hectares.
