The project was co-financed by the governments of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein with 1.3 million euro in grants and by Croatia’s ministry of regional development with 1.0 million euro, the Bjelovar city government said in a press release. Earlier, the city said it will finance the remaining 1.2 million euro with own funds.

The project aims to increase production of electricity from renewable energy sources, reduce CO2 emissions of CO2 and increase security of energy supply.

The hot water from the well will be used for district heating and agricultural production as well as in future swimming pools.

The well has a depth of 1,290 metres and water temperature of the deposit is 83 degrees Celsius. Water temperature on the surface is 70.1 degrees Celsius.
