Bulgaria's coastal airports grow passenger traffic 58% y/y in April

May 12 (SeeNews) - Germany's Fraport Group, the operator of Bulgaria's coastal airports of Varna and Burgas, said on Friday that traffic numbers for both facilities together rose 57.5% year-on-year in April, reaching 151,109 passengers.

Passenger numbers at Varna Airport jumped by an annual 64.4% to 123,645 in April, while passengers at Burgas Airport increased by 32.3% on the year to 27,464, Fraport Group said in a monthly traffic report.

The total passenger numbers at both airports represented a share of 142.3% of the traffic recorded in the same month in the pre-pandemic year 2019.

In the four months through April, combined traffic at the two coastal airports reached 438,008 or 72.2% more than a year earlier, with Varna Airport contributing passenger numbers of 390,344, the data showed.

Cargo handled at Varna and Burgas airports slumped 83% year-on-year to 130 tonnes altogether in April. For the first four months of the year to date, cargo was 67.3% less than in 2022 at 494 t.

Aircraft take-offs and landings at the two Fraport Twin Star airports grew by an annual 37.5% to 1,250 in April and by 45.6% to 3,778 in the January-April period.
