January 4 (SeeNews) - Turkish vehicle manufacturer Bozankaya said it will deliver seventeen battery-powered trams to Romania’s western city of Timisoara by the end of 2024 under a deal worth approximately 33 million euro ($36.2 million).
The deal comes on the heels of a 2019 contract, under which Bozankaya has already delivered eighteen out of 21 trams to the city of Timisoara, the company said in a press release on Wednesday.
The acquisition is financed through European funds secured through Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Timisoara city mayor Dominic Fritz said in a social media post.
The trams are powered by a battery system ensuring a travel range of 70 km. Each tram can accommodate 251 passengers.
Bozankaya was founded as a research and development (R&D) company in Germany in 1989. The company entered the Turkish market in 2003, where it solidified its brand as a vehicle manufacturer. Bozankaya specialises in the production of rolling stock such as metro and tram vehicles, as well as electric buses and trolleybuses.
