The St. Nikola wind farm produced 172 GWh of electricity during the fist six months of the year. This is close to a quarter of the country's wind energy output for the review period, AES Bulgaria noted in the statement.
The wind park accounts for about 22% to the total installed electricity generation capacity from wind power in Bulgaria, according to the statement.
The combined output of the TPP and the wind farm covered 9% of the total electricity consumption in Bulgaria during the period under review, the statement reads.
In 1999, a unit of U.S.-based energy conglomerate AES Corporation purchased the majority interest in Bulgaria's Maritsa East 1 project, subsequently renamed AES Galabovo in 2009. AES completed the full acquisition of the thermal power plant from Ireland's Consolidated Continental Commerce Limited (3C) in 2005.
