March 8 (SeeNews) - Serbia is already preparing a project for the revamp of the railway linking Belgrade to the Bosnian capital Sarajevo, expecting that the two countries will soon launch joint talks on its financing with European Union partners, Serbian transport minister Goran Vesic said.
Vesic made the announcement during a meeting with his Bosnian counterpart, Edin Forto, the Serbian transport ministry said in a press release on Thursday.
According to the statement, Forto invited Vesic to visit Sarajevo on June 6-7 when partners from the Western Balkans and the EU will discuss many joint projects, and in particular the Belgrade-Sarajevo railway overhaul. Moreover, the two countries are expected to sign an agreement for joint investment in the project at the event.
At Thursday's meeting, Vesic also brought to Forto's attention Serbia's progress in the construction of a motorway linking Belgrade to Sarajevo, as per the press release.
By September 30, Serbia will complete the construction of the Pakovraca-Pozega section of the Milos Veliki motorway that will connect Belgrade to Montenegro. After that, Serbia will start building two motorway legs starting at the southern town of Pozega - one towards the border with Montenegro and another one towards the village of Kotroman, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Vesic said that the 60-km Pozega-Kotroman motorway will be built in two stages. First, a 31 km long section will link Pozega to Susica, then a 30 km long section will connect Susica to Kotroman.
