March 5 (SeeNews) - Market coupling of the Kosovo and Albanian bidding zones in the Alpex power exchange is now clear of any regulatory impediment and the platform is ready for inter-zone exchanges, Kosovo’s economy ministry said.
Members of Alpex will now be able to trade energy in both countries at day-ahead and intraday auctions, economy minister Artane Rizvanolli said in a press release on Monday.
The market coupling aligns with both Kosovo’s and Albania’s energy reforms, aiming to establish a liberalized electricity market and boosting competitiveness, Rizvanolli added.
Alpex, founded by Albania’s power transmission operator OST and Kosovo’s KOSTT in October 2020, has a total of 23 members in the bidding zones of Albania and Kosovo .
The first day-ahead auction for Kosovo was held on January 29, Alpex said at the time. Last year, Alpex signed a memorandum of understanding with Greece’s and North Macedonia’s power operators on establishing a common day-ahead electricity market in the future.
