Out of 7.25 million passengers served at the airport in Albania's capital in 2023, 4.29 million had purchased tickets for Wizz Air flights, TIA said in a social media post.

The top five contributing airlines at Tirana airport also included Air Albania and Albawings, Germany's Lufthansa and Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair, TIA noted.

As many as 24 carriers operate at the airport, according to TIA’s website.

The airport recorded a 37% increase in seat capacity to 4.2 million available seats for departing and arriving passengers in 2023. Ryanair and Kuwaiti low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways were among the international carriers to introduce operations in Albania last year.

Wizz Air began operations at Tirana airport in 2017. In 2022, the airline announced the start of its operations at Albania’s northeastern city of Kukes, only to announce their suspension a year later. In 2023, Wizz Air introduced 10 new routes from the airport of Tirana.
