The acquisition of the factory, as well as other parts of Van Hool in Belgium, is expected to further strengthen VDL's activities in the Buses division, the company said in a statement earlier this week.
The acquisition will save around 1,600 jobs in the European bus industry, the company said, without disclosing the value of the deal.
The factory in North Macedonia, located in the Bunardzik industrial zone near Skopje, has around 1,350 employees. Van Hool opened the factory in 2014.
VDL added it has also reached a distribution agreement with distributor ABC Companies for the delivery of Van Hool buses and coaches in the United States and Canada.
