SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), January 29 (SeeNews) – The U.S. government is advertising five projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina via its specialised project database, BIDS, which lists major investment opportunities worldwide.
The projects, one of which is worth $700 million (564.3 million euro), are briefly summarised on the State Department's database of projects deemed to be of interest to U.S. investors.
The first is oil terminal privatization in Bosnia's Federation, worth $1 million. The database says that "the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federation entity contacted Post for information about American firms who might be interested in a privatization of the Federation's sea and land oil terminals".
The Federation owns terminals in the Croatian port of Ploce with 82,000 ton capacity, and on land it owns seven terminals with total capacity of 318,000 tons.
The second project worth an estimated $700 million relates to oil exploration in the Dinardoa mountain area located in the southern area of the Federation.
BIDS also lists upgrades to Banja Luka Airport, in Bosnia's Serb Republic, worth $4 million.
"The Serb Republic government is interested in strengthening the cargo and passenger capacity of Banja Luka airport," BIDS description says. "To accomplish such an upgrade, the airport would need an investment of $4 million, likely in the form of loans".
Banja Luka Airport is a hub for the shipment of meat to Turkey, and since December 2014 they processed 4,500 tons of meat and 101 cargo flights total. Banja Luka airport also offers flights to Serbia's Belgrade five days a week, BIDS adds.
The fourth entry is the construction of the section of European transport Corridor Vc between Johovac and Rudanka worth $79.5 million. According to the database, the Serb Republic has received a sovereign-guaranteed loan of up to 70 million euro to finance the construction of a 6.1 km motorway section between Interchange Rudanka (Kostajnica) to Interchange Johovac (Tovira), plus around 1 km of a two lane road connection to the existing trunk road, including a crossing of the River Bosna.
"This would be the first 6 km out of total 46.6 km of Corridor Vc that needs to be constructed within Serb Republic territory," BIDS adds.
The final project advertised by the State Department is the search for a concessionaire of bauxite deposits by the Una-Sana Canton worth $300,000.
The concession area spreads on 28.76 ha of forested land owned by the Federation entity, the economy ministry of the Una-Sana Canton said in late November.
The concession will be granted for a period of 20 years, while the concessionaire will be obliged to produce and sell 20,000 tons of red bauxite annually, BIDS explains.
Apart from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the State Department has also advertised several other projects in the SEE region - in Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania.
