November 2 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria and Greece signed on Friday a joint declaration on the projects for an upgrade of the railway link Thessaloniki-Kavala-Alexandroupolis-Burgas-Varna and the construction of a high-speed road from Alexandroupolis to Burgas, Bulgaria's government said.
The declaration envisages the establishment of a joint company which will implement the next phase of the railway upgrade project, the Bulgarian government said in a statement following a meeting of leaders of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Serbia in Varna.
An intergovernmental framework agreement for the development of the railway link will be prepared by mid-December, according to the statement.
The joint declaration follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the transport ministers of Bulgaria and Greece in September 2017, which has set the foundations for the railway link upgrade project.
The declaration envisages broadening the scope of the MoU to allow further development of the Alexandroupolis-Burgas road link.
