November 6 (SeeNews) - United Arab Emirates-based Metito Utilities plans to invest 22 million euro ($26 million) in the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Zrenjanin, in northern Serbia, the city government said.
The Serbian environment ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Metito Utilities for the construction of the plant, which will be located near Zrenjanin's Southeast Industrial Zone, the Zrenjanin city government said in a statement on Thursday.
The construction of the plant, which will employ 40 people, will start in the next 12 months and will take a year to complete, Zrenjanin mayor Simo Salapura said in the statement.
"Such a company, in addition to contributing to a better and healthier, more environmentally sustainable Zrenjanin, brings high-quality technologies, with business references in 46 countries. Serbia is now one of the countries in that group, and Zrenjanin is the first city to be on that map of sophisticated technology when it comes to wastewater treatment," he noted.
Metito Utilities, a company registered in Dubai, was founded in 1958 as the first water treatment company in the Middle East and is currently a global provider of complete water management solutions. The list of shareholders in the company includes Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
